BECKER, Dr. Carl M., Jr. Age 84, of Miamisburg, passed away Monday morning, October 13, 2008 at Sycamore Glen Health Center, Miamisburg, OH where he was recuperating from open heart surgery. Carl was born May 5, 1924 to the late Carl M. and Naomi Ruth (Borger) Becker, Sr. in Miamisburg, OH.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded by a brother, John Becker and a nephew, Dennis Critzer. Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilou Carmen (Daily) Becker whom he married March 16, 1946. Also surviving are his children, a son, Mark C. (Denise) Becker of Columbus, NE; daughters, Ann L. (Donald) Niess of Miamisburg and Karla R. McVey of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Dennis Becker, Drew (Debbie) Niess, Laurie Niess, Annie Niess, Clay Williams and Emilee Williams; great granddaughter, Liliana Niess; sister, Peggy Critzer of Miamisburg; sister-in-law, Marian Becker of Westerville, OH; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues. Carl was a 1942 graduate of Miamisburg High School, completed his undergraduate studies at Otterbein College, obtained his Master of History at University of Wisconsin and finished his Doctorate at the University of Cincinnati. Carl was a Professor Emeritus of History at Wright State University and served as Chairman of the History Department during his career. He was received the "Teaching Excellence" Award at Wright State as well as numerous other awards for his writings and achievements. During his life as a devoted father and husband, Carl was the author, coauthor, and co-editor of over 100 book titles, book chapters, journal articles and biographical essays. He served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years during WWII with tours in the Pacific, Headquarters Battery, 866th AAA Aw Battalion, Leyte and Okinawan campaigns. He was a member of the Miamisburg Historical Society and served on the Miamisburg School Board. Carl also enjoyed a life-long membership at Parkview United Methodist Church.
