A memorial service for Barbara Bivins Benet, age 81, Cedar Dunes Drive, New Smyrna Beach, who died Friday at home will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Settle-Wilder New Smyrna Beach Chapel, with the Reverend Robert C. Brown, Coronado Community United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday until service time.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Benet came to this area in 1945 from her birthplace.
A retired Realtor Associate, Mrs. Benet worked with Atlantic Shores (formerly Paxton) Realty and Paradise Palm (formerly Ownby) Real Estate. For many years, she was active with Images, A Festival of the Arts. Other activities included her being past president of the New Smyrna Garden Club and involvement with her children in the Sandspur Riding Club. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially quilting, and collecting pottery.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Benet III of New Smyrna Beach; two daughters, Gay Morris and Christine Lyle, both of New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Jerry Kennedy, also of New Smyrna Beach; three grandchildren, Patrick Lyle of Jacksonville, Katie Lyle of Augusta, Georgia, and Peter Lyle of New Smyrna Beach; and a great-grandchild, Harper Lyle of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by sisters June Musson, Suzy O'Rourke, and Holly Bivins.
