Mrs. Martha Sylvina Harts was born in Davis (Davie) County, N.C. Feb. 22nd, 1856, and passed from earthly existence at half past 2 o'clock on the morning of April 24th, 1903, age 47 years, 2 months and 2 days. She was laid to rest in the burial grounds at the Ebenezer Church by the side of her daughter. She first united with the Methodist church at Hickory Grove, Davis Co., N.C. at the age of 16, and to the day of her death never wavered in her faith.

She came with her parents to Rice County, Kansas, in 1876, and 2 years later on the 9th of December 1878, she became the wife of Perry N. Harts. To him she was a faithful, generous wife. A son and daughter blessed their union. But the ruthless hand of Death snatched away the fair young daughter on the 9th of September, 1902. Her husband and son, mother, two brothers, and two sisters survive her.
