Three men were seriously injured when locomotive 852, pulling a Chicago livestock train, exploded two miles east of Riverton on the Wabash railroad. Engineer Lewis of Springfield, who died a short time later at St. John's Hospital, and two others were injured. Cause for the explosion could not be positively given.
