Henry C. Adams of Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, Michigan was mortally wounded at Petersburg, Virginia on June 17, 1864. He had enlisted on December 2, 1862 at Rives Junction, Jackson County, Michigan at the age of 21 into Company K of the 26th Michigan Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered in on December 12, 1862. Adams died of his wounds (gunshot wound left shoulder) on June 17, 1864 at the 1st Division A. C. Hospital, and was buried in Plot 2287 of the City Point National Cemetery at Hopewell, Virginia.

26th Michigan service included: Camp Jackson, Alexandria, Washington, Suffolk, the New York Draft Riots, Mine Run, Wilderness, Po River, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg.
