He enlisted in the Air Force following his graduation, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1991 after serving during the Persian Gulf War and Desert Storm. His tours of duty included service in Korea, the U.S., and England, working in aircraft maintenance for fighter planes.
Following his discharge, he attended New England Culinary School and went on to become a cook at Hanscom Field in Bedford.
He was diagnosed with ALS just this past December. Surviving in addition to his parents, Paul and Evelyn Guinard of Woburn, are a sister, Karen M. Maggio of New Hampshire, and two brothers, Paul L. Guinard and his wife Mary and David J. Guinard, both of Woburn. He also leaves three nephews, Richard Jason, David, and Andrew Maggio, all of Winchester, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
