Sarah Eliasen Morris, 96, who operated a unique rooming house for Chinese scholars, died on August 1, 1988 at Holy Cross Hospital.

Up until the time of her death, Mrs. Morris provided a home for 10 Chinese tenants who affectionately came to know her as ''Granny.'' Most of the scholars were graduate students completing their studies at the University of Utah.

Prior to her rooming business, Mrs. Morris was employed at Holy Cross Hospital. After her retirement, she logged more than 5,000 hours as a volunteer in the hospital's gift shop.

Mrs. Morris was born October 30, 1891 in Rockland, Idaho to Soren C. and Martine Nielsen Eliasen.

She married Parley M. Morris on February 17, 1911 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Funeral services are to be held at noon on August 4 in the Salt Lake 11th LDS Ward Chapel, 961 East First South. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street.
Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
