CORRINE IDA CHRISTENSEN

Corrine Ida Christensen, 85, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 1999, at the Mount Hope Nursing Center.

Born February 9, 1913 at Halstead, Kansas, Corrine was one of eleven children of Henry and Anna Marie Meinkoth Berger, Jr. A graduate of Halstead High School, she later worked at the Halstead Hospital. On March 30, 1943, she married Chet Christensen and moved to Mount Hope where they resided.

Corrine and Chet ran the theaters in Haven and Mount Hope, owned and operated the Christensen Nursery, farmed and ran a poultry operation. In addition to being a full-time homemaker, Corrine was known for her Saturday morning baking. She was actively involved with the Federated Church, serving as a Board member, chairperson, hostess, Sunday School leader, and was a member of the Homebuilders and CWF. Community activities included Flying Needle Club, Rebekah Lodge Order of the Eastern Star, Supper Club, Bridge Club, 4-H Club and was on the board of the Mount Hope Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband in June 1971, and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one sister, Berneice Bartley, Mission, Texas; one son, Roger, Mount Hope; four daughters, Harriet Harris, Wichita, Connie Boudreaux, Amarillo, Texas, Vicki Koontz, Hutchinson, and Renetta Baxter, Mount Hope; ten grandchildren, Jason Harris and Stephanie Hills, Wichita, Kelly and Christin Boudreaux, Amarillo, Texas, Stacy Koontz, Dallas, Texas an Tyson Koontz, Hutchinson, Jeremy and Chad Christensen, Brody and Baylie Baxter, Mount Hope; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Lauren Hills, Joseph Harris, all of Wichita.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at the Mount Hope Federated Church.

She was born Feb. 9, 1913, at Halstead, the daughter of Henry and Anna Marie Meinkoth Berger Jr. A Mount hope resident, she was a homemaker and a retired operator of Christensen Nursery.

She belonged to Mount Hope Federated Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

On March 30, 1943, she married Chester A. Christensen at Halstead. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a son, Roger, Mount Hope; four daughters, Harriet Harris Wichita, Connie Boudreaux, Amarillo, Texas, Vicki Koontz, Hutchinson, and Renetta Baxter, Mount Hope; a sister, Berniece Bartley, Mission, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Federated Church, with the Rev. John Havens presiding. Friends may call today at Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Mount, Hope. Burial will be in mount Hope Cemetery.
