Joyce F. (Skubal) Thompson, age 90, formerly of 1221 Flambeau St., Manitowoc, and currently a resident of St. Mary's Home, died on Tuesday night, Oct. 14, 2008, at St. Mary's Home.

Joyce was born on Feb. 14, 1918, in Mishicot, daughter of the late Anton and Julia (Jirasek) Skubal. She graduated from eighth grade from the Pleasantview School, Mishicot, and from the Manitowoc Vocational School, with her high school diploma. She married Clarence "Tom" Thompson on April 24, 1948, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Manitowoc, by the Rev. Paul Blaufuss. Clarence preceded her in death on July 19, 2000.

She was employed at the Mirro Aluminum Goods Company for 28 years. Joyce was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild. Joyce and Clarence enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, going on cruises, and above all, were passionate about dancing. They belonged to various dancing clubs. Joyce was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and canning produce from her garden. She was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan and stuck with them through thick and thin. Joyce also was an ardent and loyal Packers fan.

Survivors include three sisters and one brother-in-law: Mercedes Wilda, Manitowoc; Arlene Roepke, Manitowoc; and Bernadine (Joseph) Wachtel, Two Rivers; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Lorna Skubal, Mishicot; Grace Babich, New Braunfels, Texas; and Allene (John) Yule, Roswell, N.M.; and two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: George (Lucille) Thompson, Oconto, and Earl (Shirley) Thompson, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tom; one sister: Doris Hamernik; one brother: Glen Skubal; five brothers-in-law: Lester Wilda; Herman Roepke; Frank Hamernik; Andrew Babich; and Norbert Gospodarek; and two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Helen (William) Jacobs and Marian (John) Landon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Home Chapel, 2005 Division St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. James Klein will officiate, with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc.

Relatives and friends may call at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the Thompson family.

Joyce's family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and the rest of the staff at St. Mary's Home for all the special care she received. They would also like to thank Holy Family Memorial Dialysis Center, doctors and nurses, and the Heartland Hospice Staff for all their tender care.
