Obituary
Our community was startled Thursday forenoon by the anouncemnt of the death of Dr. John H. Bower. It was known that he was ill, but he was supposed to be gaining slowly. His illness dated back about three weeks, when he suffered an attack of quinzy. Sortly afterwards he contracted a cold, and then inflammatory rheumatism developed. But he had been troubled more or less with an affection of the heart, and his death, was caused by heart failure due to rheumatic endocarditis. Dr. Bower was born in Germany 39 years ago. When a boy he came to America and in 1876 he came to Burlington. He traveled a great deal, and soon after coming here he established the bottling business now conducted by F. G. Klein & Co. He studied medicine and graduated from Rush Medical college about six years ago, commencing the practice of his profession soon afterwards. In his death, Burlington loses one of its leading, public spirited and succesful citizens. From a young man he had been untiring in successfully accomplishing whatever he undertook. He was genial, generous to a fault, and will be greatly missed by all. He leaves a wife and one child besides two brothers and one sister, the latter being Mat. Bower and Mrs. M. Reinardy, of Kenosha, and J. Bower, of Belle Plain, Minn. To the sorrowing ones our people extend sincere sympathy. The funeral will be held from the Episcopal church at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. T. C. Eglin will conduct the services.
