Carl Frederick Fee, 17 yr old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Fee, was killed almost instantly Weds evening when a sparkle fountain he had made from chemical compounds exploded in front of the family home at the Pure Oli Camp.

A fragment of the fountain pierced his heart.


Witnessing the tragedy were both his brother and sister.


Funeral services will be held from the Schaub Funeral home in Olney, IL, Friday afternoon at 2pm.

Interment will be made at Haven Hill Cemetery.


Fred, a brilliant and popular young man, was president of this year's graduating class at Clay City Community High School, where he was an honor student. He received the American Legion award as outstanding boy in his class, and also the award for contributing the most to the music department. He had just recently registered as a chemistry major to begin the fall semester at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

He was a member of the Clay City Christian church.


Fred was to have begun work at Payne's Sinclair station this morning.


Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff, and a sister , Carol, both at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Carl Fee of Olney, IL and his maternal grandmother, Mrs V S Fildes, also of Olney, IL; other relatives and many friends.
