Eulogy for LaDell Henry Caudle

It was an early Saturday morning on 27 May 1950 at 6:00 AM that LaDell Henry Caudle made his appearance to bless the home of Lee and LaVon Caudle. His older brother Larry, who was three, thought there was no one like his new little brother. LaDell was a good-natured and happy baby. A sister, Lura, was added to the family when LaDell was three.

It seems that LaDell was always fascinated by airplanes, and his dream was to someday be a pilot. He was only four years old when, while with a baby sitter, he ran away and went to the airport. When the police found him, he was on his way back home. He said that he had asked the man where the airplanes were, but when he was told that the airplanes had been put to bed for the night, LaDell had decided to go home.

He grew up a very happy and healthy child. His mother and father enjoyed taking their whole family on vacations. When LaDell was only two, his mother took him and Larry to San Francisco. Almost every summer, LaDell enjoyed a wonderful vacation with his family. There were trips to Tacoma and Seattle, to California, Yellowstone Park, Denver, to the World's Fair, and many fishing trips.

One of his favorite trips was his first trip to Disneyland. It was on this trip that his cousin Deana went with them. Just three months later, she passed away. So these memories were very dear to him.

At the age of six, he entered Whittier School. Even in school, the teachers would soon lose LaDell's attention if there were the sound of an airplane. Often he would be gazing out the window with his thoughts in the clouds.

As these happy years went by, two more brothers, Linden and Leslie, and his little sister Lisa were added to the family. LaDell really loved all of his brothers and sisters. He was so good to watch and help take care of the younger ones.

An outstanding event in LaDell's life was when his Aunt Mary and Uncle Eddie moved from California back to Idaho. They were like a second mother and father to him, and this was also the beginning of his wonderful friendship with his cousin, Terry.

LaDell helped his brother, Larry, on his paper route, and later he took it over and delivered them faithfully until he became ill.

At the age of eight, LaDell was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Primary and participated in Scouting and Mutual. He was ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood on 10 June 1962. At the time of his death, he held the office of Teacher. He had great faith and had a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

It was 1 June 1964 when LaDell's parents were first told the sad news that LaDell had been stricken with Leukemia. This was a terrible blow to them. It took all of their courage to carry on, but in the months to follow, they tried to fill the remaining days of LaDell's life with happiness. Never once did they let him know of the ache that was in their hearts.

Since LaDell had always wanted to go back to Disneyland, as soon as the doctors said that he could withstand the trip, the family went on their last vacation together. His Aunt Mary and Uncle Eddie and family accompanied them. Although LaDell was in poor health, he was happy over his trip.

LaDell continued to remain cheerful, in spite of the fact that he spent more and more days in the hospital. When his friends and relatives came to visit him, he was always so happy to see them. He loved having his cousin Terry with him, and Terry spent many hours by his bedside.

LaDell and his parents appreciated Bishop Chandler who was so faithful in his visits and who was always there to help them in time of need. They were truly grateful to all who were so thoughtful and kind.

LaDell loved life, and he loved adventure. It was at the age of fourteen that he left this world on 11 February 1965 to take that greater adventure of eternal life.

He leaves to mourn—besides his parents and brothers and sisters—his grandparents, Mrs Sarah Caudle of Idaho Falls and Mr and Mrs Henry A Griffin of Logan, Utah, and also many relatives and friends.

May we love and cherish these wonderful memories that LaDell has given us and keep them always in our hearts.
