ARTHUR ALLAIS DIES AT 71
Arthur ALLAIS, 71, 610 S. Church St., Christopher, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the Jane Lamb Hospital, Clinton, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. ALLAIS had been staying with their son, Erie, in Clinton.
Mr. ALLAIS was born Feb. 9, 1888, in Brazil, Ind. His parents were Victor and Louisa ALLAIS. He had been a Christopher resident 50 years.
Mr. ALLAIS was a nephew of Gus URBAIN, who sank and developed the East Mine in Urbain. The property was later acquired by the Old Ben Mining Co. and became Old Ben 12.
Mr. ALLAIS, a retired miner, was active in the Republican party serving as a committeeman for many years. He belonged to the United Mine Workers of America, the Masonic Lodge, and the Christopher First Christian Church. He served on the Christopher City Council from 1953 to 1957.
Mr. ALLAIS leaves his wife, the former Helen [Hazel] HELLER [m:22 Oct 1914]; son Erle of Clinton Iowa; brother Victor of Mulkeytown and sister Mrs. Eva PIKE of Christopher and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home, where friends may call. The Rev. W. D. BERRY, First Baptist Church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery Benton. Masonic rites will be administered at 7:30 p. m. today at the funeral home.
