Marianne Savage Clark Sharp, died on January 2, 1990 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born October 28, 1901 in Salt Lake City to J. Reuben Clark, Jr. and Luacine Annetta Savage Clark. Attended school in Washington, D.C. where her parents lived. Graduated Western High School in 1919, where she was editor of the yearbook and valedictorian. Moved to Utah, graduated University of Utah with high honors in Ancient Languages in 1924. Interested in genealogical research from age 18. Married Ivor Sharp in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1927. She spent the next ten years in New York City where she served as ward and stake Relief Society presidents. Returned to Salt Lake in 1938. Mrs. Sharp served 34 years on the General Board of the Relief Society, with 29 years as first counselor to President Belle S. Spafford, and 29 years as editor of The Relief Society Magazine. She attended as a delegate to two International Council of Women meetings in Washington, D.C. and Toronto, Canada. In 1974, Brigham Young University awarded her a doctor of humanities degree. All her life she kept close ties with a New York group, Book Women, and a Salt Lake group from college days, Fine Arts.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by three daughters, Luacine C. (Mrs. Cecil Earl Lloyd), Salt Lake City; Louise C. (Mrs. James C. Davis, Jr.), Columbia, Missouri; and Annetta C. (Mrs. Morris L. Mower), Ferron, Utah; one brother, J. Reuben Clark, III, Provo, Utah; two sisters, Louise (Mrs. Mervyn S. Bennion) and Luacine (Mrs. Orval C. Fox), both of Salt Lake; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A grandson, Tracy Earl Lloyd, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 1990 at 12 noon at the Salt Lake 20th Ward Chapel, 2nd Avenue and G Street. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at the Ward Chapel on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
