Civil War Veteran
Co. C, 41st Tennessee InfantryJohn A Barrett grew up in Shelbyville, Bedford county, Tennessee, he had 1 sister who died when she was a teenager. During the Civil-War John Barrett fought in a lot of the famous battle sites for the Confederacy. Right at the end of the Civil-War he was captured by the north and spent his last few or more months as a P.O.W. somewhere in the northern states. Soon as he was dis-charged he returned to his hometown and married and was one of the best well-known farmers in Bedford county, Tennessee. About 1911-12 John and his wife Jane and 2 of their sons James and Clay Barrett left Shelbyville, Tn. and came to Oklahoma City, Okla. I always wondered what brought them to Oklahoma and all I can imiagine is that Oklahoma was one of a few states that offered help for dis-abled Confederate Veterans, which John applied for his pension in 1914-15 and was denied . My great grandparents John and Jane/Jean B. Holt-Barrett had 4 sons, James L.Barrett, Allen Eugene Barrett, Roby or Raby? Charlie Barrett, and Clay Dyer Barrett. So far no one has been able to document their son AllenEugene Barrett , after the 1910 census/ Bedford Co.Tennessee . John and Jane B. Holt-Barrett were married 2-21-1865 in Bedford Co., Tenn..I, Tina Walker-Reser added this memorial 2009 and i am a gr. granddaughter of John A and Jane B. Holt-Barrett....UPDATE Sept.,-2013 So happy to announce that after almost 25 years of searching we have located Charles Robert "Roby" Barrett!! have added a memorial on FAG for him and joined with our family, thanks to another very kind and thoughtful relative on our family tree from Ancestry.com. ...now if we couls just find Allen Eugene!
