YOCOM. Died 15-05-1942. Laura Alice Yocom, 91 years, 8 months, 3 days, one of Jerseyville's oldest residents, died at 10:50 am Friday, may 15, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. A. R. Chappell in this city, where she has resided for the past 15 years. The deceased was the daughter of the late Hiram & Mary (Merriman) Young, and was born in Williamsville, September 12, 1850. On July 10, 1873, she was united in marriage with George W. C. Yocom, a Sangamon County farmer. The couple established their home on a farm, and later moved to Logan County, and in 1903 they established their home in Jersey County. Mr Yocom died February 2, 1927. Mrs. Yocom is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Chappell; 2 sons, Clyde H. Yocom of Fidelity and Claude M. Yocom of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren and 1 sister, Mrs. Mary A. Jones of Neosho, Missouri. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Sunday, may 17, at 2:30. Rev. John A. Lampe officiated and entombment was in Oak Grove mausoleum. ~ Obituary found on Jersey Co. GenWeb
