Hazel Daris Carter passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in Middletown at the age of 104. She was born in West Liberty, Kentucky on February 28, 1904 to parents Joseph Thomas and Martha Elizabeth (Cartmill) Carter.
Hazel taught school in Zag, Kentucky before attending business school in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She then became an executive secretary at Armco, retiring in 1969 after 42 years. She also proudly served in the military toward the end of World War II. Hazel enjoyed travel, reading, and played in a bridge club into her 90's. She loved her family and country and will be missed by all.
Hazel is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews. The closet generation includes Raymond Cottle, Dorothy Cottle, Paul Carter, Tony Carter Jr., Jean Sheets, Wanda Lowe, Vanita Centers and Juanita Melton. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 11:00 am at Woodside Cemetery Chapel, 1401 Woodside Blvd., Middletown. Inurnment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
