Funeral services will be held for Hervey Moore "Pete" Hunter, 88, of Agricola, on Thursday, August 5, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Agricola Baptist Church following visitation on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sigler Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Agricola Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Bryce Evans officiating the services.
A native of Heidelberg, he moved to Agricola in 1920 with his parents, Bettie Moore Hunter and John Edd Hunter, and attended Agricola Baptist Church. After college, he married Dorothea "Dot" Eileen Estes, 1939-1973, and purchased a farm in Agricola in 1950, where he resided for the rest of his life. After her death, he married Lutheree Flynt Hamilton, 1975-2002. He retired from his job with the Department of Agriculture where he serves as ASCS Office Manager for George County for many years. He attended Jones County Junior College, and was a graduate of Chillocothe Business College in Missouri and the Jackson School of Law and was a member of the Mississippi Bar for over 50 years. He was a business owner and helped establish the First National Bank of Lucedale, serving on its board for a number of years. He enjoyed farming which he described as his favorite recreation. A member of the Agricola Baptist Church, he died on August 2, 2004.
He is survived by a son, Hervey Michael (June) hunter of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Patti Hunter (Don) Smith; seven grandchildren, Angela Pruett and John Michael (Allison) Hunter, both of Mobile, Ala., Keith Alan (Shelia) smith of Birmingham, Ala., Elizabeth Carol Hunter (Chuck) Cochran of Macon, Daniel (Shana) Smith of Agricola, Deborah June Hunter of Baltimore, Md., and Gregory Smith; mine great grandchildren, Neeka (Alisha) Thomley of Lucedale, Timothy ( Summer) Thomley, Krystle (Chris) Murphy, Fallan Smith, Brock James Hunter and Kaitlyn Allison Hunter, all of Mobile, Ala., Christen Gerlach Smith of Birmngham, Ala., Jeremy Daniel smith and Kaley Marie Smith, both of Agricola; three great great grandchildren, Bailey Thomley and Tyler Thomley, both of Lucedale and Kelsey Thomley of Mobile, Ala.; three brothers, John Edd (Sarah) Hunter of Charleston, SC, Clifton Dick Hunter of Agricola and William R. "Bill" (Joyce) Hunter of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Frances Scarbrough of Biloxi and Mary (Harvey) Dahlgren of Dallas, Texas; a loving friend, Rita Kay Bartlett of Lucedale; and many additional relatives and friends.
The family would like to recognize and thank the Mobile Infirmary, Mercy medical Hospital and Thomas Hospital for their outstanding care during the last month of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Agricola Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
