Betty Jean Ellis was born April 10, 1931 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was one of two children born to Hazel Irene Smith and John Irvin Hegwood. Betty graduated from Knoxville High School and spent her entire life in Marion County.
Betty Jean Hegwood was united in marriage to Glenn L. Ellis of Lacona, Iowa on September 10, 1952. To this union two children were born. During her marriage Betty and Glenn bought and restored cars. This interest in cars continued throughout her life. Glenn passed away on November 5, 1967. Betty later met her longtime companion, Joseph William "Bill" Hendricks.
Betty enjoyed making a home for her family, baking and shopping. She always had a tender spot in her heart for stray animals and birds.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Harold I. Hegwood, son Glenn, and longtime companion William Joseph Hendricks.
Those left to mourn her passing are one daughter, Joni R. Ellis-Pierce of Dallas, Tx, her sister-in-law Gladys Snyder of Ankeny, Ia, her nephew, John I. Hegwood and family of Phoenix, Az, her close friend, De Wilbur of Carlisle and several cousins and acquaintances.
