OBITUARY - Peoria Journal Star: 17 Jun 1968

Jacob W. Benedict, 70, of 229 Columbia St., East Peoria, died at 11:50 a.m. yesterday at St. Francis Hospital, where he had been a patient since Saturday.

A resident at the Columbia street address since 1939, Mr. Benedict was born in Elkhorn, Ky., Sept. 15, 1897, the son of John W. and Nancy Taylor Benedict. He married Emma L. Jurgens in Springfield on July 3, 1930, and she survives.

Mr. Benedict was employed as a machinist at the Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 26 years. He had been on medical leave from the company since 1959.

Besides his wife survivors include three sons, John L. and Harold L. of East Peoria and Carl L. of Peoria; a sister, Mrs. Susan Williams of Mason City, and a half-brother, Ralph, of Pekin. Twelve grandchildren also survive. One brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at LeRoy Schmidt Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Fred Rotermund of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating.

Friends may call at the cyapel [sic] from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and burial will be n [sic] Mason City Cemetery.
