William Daniel Laurence was the son of George Washington Lawrence/Laurence of Izard County, Arkansas, and unknown mother. His step-mother was named Eliza A. Worthington. Little is known of William Daniel other than he reportedly was at one time a picture salesman in Egypt, Arkansas.

William had one brother, Albert Franklin Laurence.

He was married to a Cherokee Indian named Lucille Elanor/Elnora "Lucy" Schoonover, who he married on 6/8/1895 in Muskogee, Creek Nation, Indian Territory (Oklahoma).

William reportedly died of pneumonia in 1913, leaving the family virtually destitute.

William was the father of William A. "Will" Laurence and Albert Beauregard "Babe" Laurence, who murdered three police officers in 1924, for which Will was hung at the Arizona State Pen at Florence, Arizona, in January 1926. Babe was sentenced to 99 years in prison in Texas, but released after serving only ten years.
