D. GUY HOLLINGER TAKEN BY DEATH IN EARLY MORNING

Greatly Beloved Citizen Dies of Pneumonia in Hanover Hospital of Which He Was PresidentWAS POSTMASTER HERE FOR PAST EIGHT YEARS.

Hanover lost one of its foremost citizens in the death, at the Hanover General Hospital, this morning at 3:00 o'clock, of postmaster D. Guy Hollinger after a few days illness from bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Hollinger was stricken Wednesday at his home on Fourth Street and remitted to the hospital yesterday morning about 10 o'clock, he lapsed into a comatose condition shortly after his admission and was unable to speak, only recognize at brief intervals. He was aged 49 years, nine months, and 20 days.

Of some people, it has been said they will remembered by the enemies they made, but of David Guy Hollinger must be remembered by the friends he has made. He was incapable of making an enemy; no person could come within the radius of his personality and feel other than kindly toward him. Reciprocating the kindness he felt toward his fellow man. He radiated inexhaustible fund of good cheer where it was always a pleasure to come in contact with him even in the most casual way; with a presence to come in contact with firm even in the most casual way; it was a joy to look in his gergrageus smile: the day was made bigger and more glorious for his cheery word of gracious; never failing good humor which was contagious and served from him with regards on whom it fell. Nobody in the community ever attained or D. Guy Hollinger possesses he was one of those few whose place cannot be filled and who will not soon be forgot.

BORN IN ABBOTSTOWN

Mr. Hollinger was born in Abbottstown April 1, 1880, the son of Dr. William Hollinger and Genevieve Hollinger. He was one of three children of whom he was the sole survivor.

He was educated from the public schools of Adams County, spent one year at Gettysburg College and entered the University of Maryland Dental School and graduated in 1899 with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery, he practiced his profession from that date in Adams County, associated with his father who died in 1909. DR. W. F. Hollinger a practicing physician in Abbottstown is an uncle of the deceased.

Mr. Hollinger married Miss Ada Shultz daughter of Emma and the late J. P. Shultz, Hanover Feb. 26. 1903. in Hanover. They moved to Hanover in March, 1910 engaging in the real estate and insurance business************. This was a record in which he was justifiable in taking great pride. Although he lost the election in November by a narrow margin of 12 votes he secured on this occasion as a further mark of his popularity among his neighbors and fellow-townsmen the honor of carrying Hanover by a thousand majorities. No other candidate in the borough ever received an unquestioned a testimonial of endorsement showing the esteem and high repute in which he was held.

He was appointed mercantile appraiser for York county for 1920 and was reappointed for several years in succession on February 8, 1922 he was named acting postmaster of the Hanover post office succeeding the late Emory k. Eichelberger. His appointment by President Harding as postmaster was approved by the senate May 5, 1922 and on the expiration of his four year term in 1926 he was reappointed by President Coolidge.

Had Many Activities

At the time of his death, Mr. Hollinger was the president of the Hanover General hospital and also head of the Arcadian club, the oldest social organization here. He was a member of the board of directors of the Hanover agriculture society and took a prominent part in the annual fairs serving as chairman of the committee of privileges. He was also a member of the Hanover country club the first meeting looking to the founding of the club having been held in his offices.

He was prominent in Masonic circles being a member of the Patmos lodge A. M. of Hanover Royal Arch Chapter No. 310 of Bethel Commandery; No. 98 knights Templar of Hanover;

Of council of Royal and Select Master Masons of York; a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Masons of the valley of Harrisburg Consistory; and Shiner of Zembo Temple. He was also affiliated with the Hanover lodge of Elks, the P.O.S. of A., and Loyal Order of Moose.

His business connections included a long term of office as Director of the Hanover Savings Fund society since 1912, for two years he was a Director of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Hanover Fire Company No. 1

Son's Death Great Blow

He is survived by his wife and three children: the Misses. Marie and Madge and John, all at home. His oldest son, William died in 1923 as the result of an automobile accident. This was a blow keenly felt by Mr. Hollinger and though he bore up bravely under the loss, his friends knew of his lasting sorrow.

The funeral will take place Monday afternoon with services at the house at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Harry Hursh Beildleman pastor of St. Matthews Lutheran church will officiate. The burial service will be in charge of Bethel Commandery, Knights' Templar, of Hanover. Interment will be in the family burial lot at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Active pallbearers have been chosen from the Commandery as follows: Roscoe Rider, Howard F. Sagle, Calvin Bange, Claude Hartman, Mark F Trone, Herman Teaman, Edward Hollinger, and Clinton Smith. Members of various other business and fraternal organizations will be represented by honorary pall bears.
