Vaneese was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Redmond, a daughter of William Burton and Lillian Anderson Allred. She attended school in Salina and graduated from North Sevier High School. During World War II, she worked in Manti, making parachutes.
She married Keith Stanley Barrett May 25, 1944, in the Manti LDS Temple. Vaneese and Keith had three daughters, Marsha, Bonnie and Holly.
Vaneese was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled various callings throughout her life. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Salina Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Vaneese enjoyed gardening, traveling with her husband, children and grandchildren, and was an excellent seamstress, homemaker and cook. She worked side by side with her husband, Keith, in their grocery business,
Barrett's Foodtown and Holly's Pantry, performing many different jobs.
She especially enjoyed being with her family. Vaneese was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was truly an example of grace, womanhood and strength.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Keith, and their children, Marsha and Paul Okerlund and Bonnie and Jim Erdei, all Salina; seven grandchildren, Thad and Emily Okerlund, Syracuse; Lori and Mike Seidel, Salt Lake City; Cindi and Ross Anderson and Coni and Brad Burnham, all Salina; Amber and Jeremy Baker, Eagle Mountain; Chandler and Jennifer Erdei and Starli and Joby Mickelsen, all Salina; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Burton and LuWeen Allred, Salina; sisters-in-law, Carol Lee Allred, Murray; Elaine Allred, Salina; Carole Barrett Mellor, Gunnison, and Norma Barrett, Bishop, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly; her brothers, Byron Allred and Lowell Allred, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, at noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street, Salina, Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Stake Center on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Huntsman Cancer Center in Vaneese Barrett's name.
