Russell DeWayne Bridgeman, 44, died Oct. 26, 2008, in Martinsville, Indiana. Born April 20, 1964, in Sullivan, Mo., he was the son of Frank and Hazel (Cheatwood) Bridgeman of Martinsville. Three sons Caleb, Keegan and Quinton Bridgeman survive him. His brother L. G. Bridgeman of Port St. Lucie, Florida and his parents also survive him.

He was a 1982 graduate of Martinsville High School and also had attended Ivy Tech. Russell loved the Lord and was a student of the Bible. He attended the House of Prayer in Ellettsville, Indiana.

Russ was an avid historian, genealogist and civil war living historian. He was blessed with many talents: singing and writing music, writing, painting and sculpture. Most of his friends will remember his beautiful singing voice especially Elvis' Trilogy. Russell had a keen sense of humor and mirth. He also loved cooking for his family, friends and gardening. Magnolias were his favorite flowers.

He participated in Civil War reenactments and was a first sergeant in the 33rd Indiana/Virginia regiment. He started both the 35th Indiana "First Irish" Reenacting Regiment and the 23rd Mississippi Reenacting Regiment Company C Tippah Tigers.

Russell was an incredible artist of replica Civil War flags, as demonstrated by his painted eagles capturing the strength of a nation in the glint of their eyes. He created flags/colors used in the reenactments for the 135th Anniversary of Gettysburg, 135th Anniversary of Antietam, Shiloh and many other reenactments and engagements of North and South. His flags also appeared in many movies of the civil war genre. He created many replicas of the Civil War Indiana battle flags for the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum and the Indiana War Memorials Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana.

His funeral service was held October 30, 2008 at Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville, Indiana. Pastor Mikel Bowman of the House of Prayer officiated. He received an honor guard and 21-gun salute from his reenacting friends both North and South. He is buried at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Indiana.
