Joseph Henry Byington, 66, pioneer resident of Lava Hot Springs, died at St. Marks hospital in Salt Lake City Saturday [25 Mar 1961].

Born in Downey 25 Dec 1984, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Rosetta Hunt Byington. He made his home in the Downey area until moving to Lava Hot Springs in 1919. He was a farmer and sheepman in the Lava area until the time of his death.

On 30 Oct 1913 he was married to Viola Miller at Pocatello.

Mr. Byington was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Dowe Byington of Lava Hot Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Cal Nix of Jerome, and Mrs. John Chestnut of Havre, Mont.; his mother, Mrs. Rosetta Byington of Lava Hot Springs; one brother, Lawrence of Bishop, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Thompson of Porterville, Calif., Mrs. Jewell Schnurr of Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs. Ruby Daniels of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Lucile Lau of Soda Springs; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday [28 Mar 1961] at 2 p.m. in the Lava Hot Springs LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Wallace Whitehead officiating.

Burial will be in the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Downard Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home until 10 a.m. Tuesday and at the Lava Hot Springs Ward Chapel from 11 a.m. until time of services.
