Bessie Martin was born in Babcock, Wis., to Martin and Nettie Fate. They lived in Wisconsin Rapids, Sheldon, Iowa, and in 1928, moved to Claremont. She married Elmo Leach in Rockford, Ill. They lived in Port Edwards, Wis., for many years and divorced in 1950. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked at Durkee Attwod Co. She married Stanley J. Martin in 1955. They owned and operated Martin's Resort, Garrison, until selling it and retiring in 1981. Since retiring, she had lived at Bob's Trailer Park in Garrison and wintered in Brownsville, Texas. She had been a resident of Mille Lacs Nursing Home for several months. She was a member of Garrison VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of Garrison Lioness Club.
Survivors include her son and daughter of Onamia, and daughter of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; brother of Williams; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind long-time companion of Garrison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1979; daughter, Marlene Hilger; and sisters and brothers, Alice, Lisne, Ann Novak, Vern, Ray, and Merle.
