James Marvin Barnett MOMM2C, Cadet Nurse Alice Lavelle Barnett
Another brother and sister serving their country are the Barnetts - James Marvin Barnett MoMM2-C and his sister Cadet Nurse Alice Lavelle Barnett, son and daughter of Gus B. Barnett of the Barton community.
James Marvin Barnett is at home enjoying his 30-day leave after having served for 23 months on an aircraft rescue boat in the Southwest Pacific. After his leave, he will report to San Francisco, Calif. for further assignment.
Cadet Nurse Alice Lavelle Barnett entered the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corp January 15, 1944 at Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Lavelle spent the first week in March at her home in the Barton community with her brother and expects to spend another weekend here before he leaves. She is in her junior year, liking her work, and expects to serve overseas when her training is complete.
Services Set For James M. Barnett
Funeral services are scheduled for James Marvin Barnett, II, on Thursday afternoon at Barton Baptist Church at 2 p.m.
Barnett, 40, died Tuesday afternoon, from injuries received in an airplane crash at Lumberton, Miss. He was a native of George County and made his home in Barton Community.
He was a member of the Lucedale Industrial Development Co., the Lucedale Flying Club, sergeant in the Air Force Reserve and squadron commander in the Lucedale Civil Air Patrol. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Barton church and was employed at Farmco Tractor Co., as parts manager.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Barnett, and four children, Wayne, Donnie, Judy and Deedy Barnett, all of Lucedale. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Alice Barnett, three sisters, Mrs. Edd Adams and Mrs. Walter McDerment, all of Lucedale, and Mrs. T. E. Gilley of Ocean Springs and one brother, Z.H. Barnett of Pascagoula.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Horace Glass, the pastor, with Fails Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
