Caldwell Journal (Caldwell, Ohio) Sept. 21, 1910
Samuel Franklin Guiler, youngest son of William and Mary Guiler was born at Belle Vernon, Pa., July 22, 1829. and died August 30, 1910, aged eighty-one years, one month and eight days. In his early history he emigrated with his parents to the farm where he died, about two miles south of Whigville. He was united in marriage with Caroline Snyder, daughter of John and Anna Snyder, May 25, 1860, with whom he pleasantly lived for more than half a century. To this union were born six children, two of whom preceded the father to the realm of endless bliss. two sons and two daughters and his faithful wife remain to mourn his demise.
At the age of seventeen years, he was born again of the Holy Spirit and connected himself in church relations and the M. E. church and lived a faithful member of that organization until he joined the church triumphant in the skies. He was a kind and loving husband and a devoted and indulgent father. Some ten days or two weeks before his death he received a wonderful blessing and manifestation of the Divine Spirit, and from that hour was filled with the presence and power of his blessed Savior. He died triumphantly. To him death and the grave had no terror, for he had complete victory over them.
The funeral obsequles of the deceased were observed September 1st, two days after his death, conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. J. B. Buckey. Brief services held at the home and the remains were then taken to the M. E. church at Whigville, followed by a large precession of relatives, friends and acquaintances and the writer preached a brief sermon on the subject of heaven from Revelations. 21st chapter, 1, 2 3, and 4 verses, and all that was mortal of his good character. A large concourse of people present at the funeral and the floral offering spoke loudly as proof of the respect of his neighbors for this good man. R. B. T.
