Born and raised in Aiea, Hawaii, he was a longtime resident of Fairfield, California.
He is survived by his wife, Ivy (Quevido) Abafo; two daughters and sons-in-law Shawna and Michael Pampinella, and Charmaine and Urban Alexander; two granddaughters Malia and Kamalei Alexander; mother Christine Abafo; brother Val Abafo; and sisters Hannah Francis, Phyllis Gersaba, and Louise Ratliff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Valentino Abafo.
Rudy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management from Trinity College. He served in the United States Army for 26 years, and retired as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Recruiting Command for Northern California.
Rudy enjoyed his retirement on the golf course, playing the 18 holes as well as working as a golf marshall at Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield.
Rudy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for making people laugh and for being a good friend who was always there to lend a hand. Rudy was a man of quiet strength who will be forever loved and dearly missed.
In celebration of his life, a viewing was held April 30, 2008, with a prayer of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield. Funeral services were Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N. Texas St., Fairfield. Rudy was laid to rest with honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
