At the age of 65, Allen passed away at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Son of Neil and Helia (Karasti) Ahola.

1954 graduate of the Negaunee High School.

Navy Veteran:
Served from 1954-1958
Stationed in Hawaii and Washington, DC.

Received B.S. degree in arts and a Masters Degree in educational administration from Northern Michigan University. He then attained his PHd in general administration from the University of Michigan in 1969. He was also named as a Mott Fellow.

After teaching for three years at the Negaunee Public Schools and two years at NMU, he worked for the State of Michigan Department of Education as Director of Research from 1969-1972.

Dr. Ahola then came to Gwinn working as an administrative assistant and later assuming the position of Superintendant of Schools from 1977 through 1986 before becoming the head of the UP Outreach Office through the Michigan Department of Education and retiring in 1992.

Member of the Grace Lutheran Church, a former Mason, Shriner, member of the American Legion, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs.
