Ted was the second of six children born to Jacob and Sophia Raugust Breitling who immigrated from Russia. He married Marie Jeanne Cummings on January 20, 1941, in New Mexico. He and his wife operated a beauty shop on Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs. They sold the shop and moved to Denver and Ted went into the advertising business.
