He was born on February 22, 1977, in Manhattan, the son of Wayne R. and Cindy S. (Burkhalter) Sloan.
Ryan was raised in Manhattan and was a 1994 graduate of Manhattan High School. He earned his Bachelors in 1999 and Masters in 2000 in accounting from Kansas State University.
Ryan was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Student Center in Manhattan. While at Kansas State Ryan was an active member with Phi Delta Theta fraternity and served as the fraternity treasurer. Following his graduation from college he became a chapter advisor for the fraternity. Ryan held a passion for playing baseball since childhood. Later he coached little league baseball for the Manhattan Cookie League and saw his team through the city league championship. He was an Oklahoma Sooners fan and avid Kansas State football fan. Ryan also enjoyed playing golf and later became a NASCAR fan.
Following his graduation from Kansas State, Ryan moved to Kansas City and then to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked in the accounting department for The Weather Channel. He returned to Manhattan two years ago where he was the Business Development Manager for Baystone Financial.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Cindy Sloan of Manhattan; by his sister, Ashley Sloan of New Orleans, Lousianna; and his brother, Robert Zachary Sloan of Manhattan. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Irene Burkhalter of Benkelman, Nebraska.
Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Arthur Burkhalter and by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Lillian Sloan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Don Zimmerman as celebrant. Cremation will follow with private inurnment in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
A rosary service will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Visitation will follow until 8:30 p.m.
