Mr. William David "Dave" Padgett, age 81, of Price Avenue, Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born March 22, 1927 in Forest City, North Carolina, the son of the late Mr. Landrum Burel Padgett and the late Mrs. Louise Blanchard Padgett. Mr. Padgett served as Staff Officer U.S. Maritime Commission during World War II. On February 15, 1948, Mr. Padgett married Dorothy Bennett. At a very early age, he was appointed Vice President for Trust Company and was in charge of Correspondent Banking for the Southeast and later correspondent banker for the entire correspondent banking operations. When he served as Governmental Affairs Officer for SunTrust, he was responsible for the passage of major banking laws. Mr. Padgett retired after 45 years service with SunTrust Banks as Senior Vice President. He was appointed by Governor Carter and reappointed by Governors Busbee and Miller to serve on the Governor's State Commission on Compensation. He was elected Treasurer for the Georgia Bankers Association and appointed by Governor Vandiver to be Treasurer for the Democratic Party of Georgia. Mr. Padgett's civic affairs included participation in the organization of the Douglasville Kiwanis Club, where he served as president; he was a president of the Men's Club of the Douglasville First United Methodist Church; and was a member of the Georgia Mental Health Association and the Georgia Textile Association. Survivors include his wife of over sixty years, Mrs. Dorothy Bennett Padgett of Douglasville; his children, Gail Padgett and her husband, Jim Colvin of Bradenton, Florida, Ted and Renee Padgett of Newnan, Nancy and Duane Adams of Winston and Cameron Padgett of Buford; 6 grandchildren, Amy Adams, Ivy Adams, Carla and Matt Donahue, Mitchell Padgett, Scott Padgett and Niki Padgett; and great granddaughter, Haylie Donahue; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Douglasville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Max Caylor officiating. Mr. Ted Padgett and Mr. Herman Moore will render eulogies. Musical selections will be rendered by Mr. Larry McCleod. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Padgett, Mitchell Padgett, Matt Donahue, Jimmy McCleod, Stan Hunnicutt and Jennings Garbade. Mr. Padgett will lie in state at the church Tuesday, November 4, 2008 from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Douglasville City Cemetery in Douglasville, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Monday, November 3, 2008, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM
