Ursula was born in what was then known as the Duchy of Carniola in the Austrian Empire. Today, this area is part of the country of Slovenia. In 1885, she married Francis "Frank" Stanfel. Their first son was born in Podgrad, Slovenia. In 1891, the Stanfels immigrated to the United States, where they settled in Calumet, Michigan. After their immigration, three more children were born to the Stanfels: Angela (or Angeline) in 1892, Albin in 1896, and Christine in 1900.
Ursula became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1898.
At the time of her death at the age of 89, Ursula was grandmother to 12, great-grandmother to 27, and great-great-grandmother to 11.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; her daughter Angela Kovachich; and her grandchildren Edward Stanfel, Theresa Stanfel, Alben Kovachich, Theresa Gloria Kovachich, and an unnamed Kovachich boy and unnamed Stanfel girl.
