Oscar L. Kratsch, 60, of 439 8th st., SW, Perry township trustee and former president of the Massillon city council, died at his residence Friday evening after an illness of several months.

Mr. Kratsch was active in political circles of western Stark county most of his life. He served as president of the city council for three terms, from 1916 to 1922. He was superintendent of streets here during the administration of Mayor Irving Ferrell.

For several years Mr. Kratsch was a member of the review board, a body of men appointed by the state board of appraisers and assessors to review in general all taxation matters. Mr. Kratsch was president of the board four years. He also served as a member of the Massillon park commission.

At the time of his death Mr Kratsch was serving his third term as a member of the board of trustees of Perry township.

Mr. Kratsch was associated with the Russell & Co. for 32 years. During the latter years of the company's existence he was the superintendent of the wood working department, superintendent of construction and maintenance of buildings and plant fire chief.

Born in Wilmot and educated in schools in that community, Mr. Kratsch came to Massillon 46 years ago and has resided here since.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna M. Kratsch; two daughters, Miss Priscilla M. Kratsch, at home, and Mrs. Howard J. Jones, of Massillon; a sister, Miss Emma S. Kratsch of Massillon; and two grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, the Sons of Union Veterans, Massillon Council No. 31. Jr. O.U.A.M., and Perry-Stark lodge No. 87, Knights of Pythian.

The funeral will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Gordon-Shaidnagle-Hollinger funeral home. The Rev. F.B. Hax, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Massillon cemetery. The body will be removed this evening to the residence where it will remain until Monday at 10 a.m.
