Aged Citizen Passes Away at Charleston
D. S. Adair died at his home in Charleston, Thursday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
Funeral was at the M. E. church at Charleston Friday at 3:30 conducted by Revs. R. L. Wickersham, L. E. Little and Hugh Tomlinson, followed by interment in Charleston cemetery.
Mr. Adair was take sick Sunday morning with pneumonia and grew worse until the end.
D. S. Adair was born in Houston County, May 30, 1858 and he would have been 78 years old had he lived to the 30th of next month.
He was married to Ann Cameron on Jan. 5, 1881 in Hopkins County. To this union born nine children of which six survive. They are "Jimmy" (James Murel Adair), who is at home, John Glen Adair of Texarkana, "Charlie" Charles Sharp Adair of Paris, Mrs. Effie Ann Adair Williams of Charleston, Martha Elizabeth Adair Akard and Esther "Esta" Adair Oats of near Lubbock. He is survived by his wife, one brother and 12 great grandchildren.
Mr. Adair was a substantial citizen of his community. He professed faith in Christ in early life. For several years he has been a member of the Holiness and has stood for Christian his ideals and has been zealous for the cause of his Master among those of his community. His last message to his wife just before death was that "I must leave you. Take care of yourself and try to win souls for Christ."
