JERRY BRODY DIES SUDDENLY.
On the Morning of His Sister's Wedding Day, Changing a Day of Joy Into One of Sorrow.

Jerry E., son of Ezra Brody, of Porter, was found dead in his bed by his sister, Dora, Wednesday morning, May 10. The boy had been ailing the day before and was unable to do his work in school and did not go in the afternoon. In the evening he told his father that he was going to die this time. He has really never been well from birth. A doctor was called during the evening and administered medicine to the boy, and the father remained all night with him. At 6 o'clock in the morning Jerry asked for something to warm him up and was given a little whiskey in some coffee. This seemed to relieve him and he went to sleep. Mr. Brody watched the boy for some time, and finally left him sleeping soundly. At eight o'clock Dora went in to see her brother and found him lying just as the father left him, dead. The family think the cause of death was from enlargement of the spleen and weak heart, but to be satisfied, they have ordered a post mortem examination to be held.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the house.

Deceased was 15 years old June 26,, last, and was the favorite of the family and all who knew him. He was to have taken his examination on the day he died, and worried much for fear he would not be able to pass.

Another strange and sad feature of the case was that a sister, Anna, was to be married Wednesday to Theodore Green and all arrangements for a grand wedding had been made. Upon the advice of friends, the ceremony was performed at the home of Emil Busse in the afternoon. The wedding had been postponed once before.

Dr. Carson, coroner of this county, was notified of the death of Jerry Brody, and was asked to hold a post mortem examination. He arrived here in the afternoon, and after examining the body and hearing the evidence of the family, concluded that death was due to heart failure, the result of general fatty degeneration. The spleen and liver were both involved, crowding the heart out of place, affecting the heart muscles and causing heart failure. The origin of this trouble began in infancy. The chest and ribs were crowded out of place by a gas, and after death a large quantity of this gas was drawn from the body, after which the child appeared natural. Dr. Carson says no human aid could have saved his life as he was all wore out, and must have suffered intensely during life. The verdict will be in accordance with the above facts.
