Chase R. Meakins, 90, of Haxtun, died Tuesday, Jan.9, 1993, at a Haxtun hospital.
Funeral is Saturday Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Brethren in Haxtun with the Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial will be at the Haxtun Cemetery.
Mr. Meakins was born June 8, 1902, to Stephen and Maude Meakins on the family farm north of Haxtun. He attended the Meakins School and Haxtun High School.
He married Viola Mae Monk Aug. 7, 1920, in Ft. Morgan. The couple moved to a farm northwest of Haxtun, where they lived for 47 years.
Mr. Meakins farmed until retirement in 1968. He was an avid baseball and umpired for many years. He was a member of the Haxtun Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife Viola Mae of Haxtun: a daughter Viola Belle Zimmerman and her Husband Orville of Ft. Collins: a brother Rex and sister-in-law Evelyn, both of Haxtun: three grandchildren. seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by a brother John, and a sister Pearl.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Meakins name can be made to the Haxtun Hospital or Haxtun Nursing Home.
