She wrote a monthly column for the Hempfield Manor Newsletter, Blanche's Corner, and was active in welcoming new residents to the Manor. Friends will be received in the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Byron T. Eisaman officiating.
Blanche Allshouse in October of 1940 served as the Registrar for the World War II Draft in Wilmerding.
Her name would show up on perhaps thousands of those draft cards for that time period, including my grandfather's draft.
She played a significant role in World War II and ought to be recognized for that accomplishment.
