Bob Gent was the son of Wesley & Pearlie Mae (Smith) Gent. He had several brothers and 2 sisters. His dad Wesley, died when he was a young boy so he and his brothers supported the family. They always lived in Ohio & West Virginia and usually worked in the coal mines. He enlisted in the US Navy when he was only 15 years old and was actually aboard a ship with his older brothers George & Phillip when his age was discovered and he was kicked out. That was during World War II. He later served in both the Army and the Marines. He married Alice Klott in the 1950s and they raised 6 kids together. Bob was a painter by trade, a cowboy in spirit. When he was his brothers were kicked out of the state of New Mexico by the governor, they decided to take up residence there in Rio Dosa. In the early 1970s they moved to Columbus Ohio and lived in the "Groveport" area. Bob had many grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren when he passed away. It was discovered in early 1996 that he had cancer throughout his body. He did not take chemo. Not wanting to burden his family, he planned and paid for his own funeral services. He was my grandpa "popalops", and will always be my hero. Sept 23.1996 we laid him next to my grandma Alice (the love of his life), but never have we laid his memory to rest.
