ames A. Stover, 87, of Belleville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at his home.

Born May 6, 1930, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late John B. and Angela (Wertz) Stover. On July 19, 1958, he married Elizabeth “Betsy” McNabb, who preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2003.

Surviving is one daughter, Sara A. Mattern and her husband, Scott, of McClure; one grandson, Joseph S. Mattern, of McClure; a sister, R. Ann Snook and husband, Ira, of Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Davidson and Mary Kling; and a sister-in-law, Mary McNabb Laughlin.

He was the valedictorian of Reedsville High School Class of 1948. After high school, he attended Juniata College in Huntingdon.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served primarily in the Pacific, but also served in Las Vegas, Nev., Texas and the Strategic Air Command in Georgia. By the end of his six years, he achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant.

In January 1957, he began his employment as an inspector in the quality control department of New Holland in Belleville. He also served as a supervisor in the press and shear department and retired in July 1991 as a quality engineer in the quality control department.

He loved classical music and was an accomplished pianist. While he was still very young, he gave recitals for Mr. Elbert Prettyleaf in Lewistown.

Jim was a member of West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church in Belleville; the Air Force Association; and the American Legion Logan Guard Post 90 in Lewistown.

Graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
