Memorial services for Frances Ellen Barnes Brown will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Hosston Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Allen officiating. A service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 29th at Hixson Funeral Home chapel in her hometown of Jena, LA.
Frances was born July 15, 1924 in Baton Rouge, LA to Joseph and Elsie Barnes. Her family moved to Jena where she grew up and married James Kite Brown in 1946. Frances and Jim celebrated 62 years of marriage and raised 6 children. She became a nurse in 1973 and worked at Doctor's Hospital initially, then went to work for Dr. Emily Jones. In 1979 Frances and Jim achieved their dream to acquire acreage and move away from the city life. They built their home in Mira, LA and raised cattle and always had a huge garden. Frances enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and most of all making her family happy. She was a member of Hosston Baptist Church and she dearly loved her church family. She was a very precious and sweet wife, mother grandmother and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Frances left this world to be with our Lord Jesus on December 23, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, her husband Jim and her first grandchild Jerry. She is survived by her children; Liz Walker, John & Rosemarie Brown, Jim and Kathy Brown, Mary & Eddie Deemer, Joe & Mary Brown, and Terry & Cassandra Brown, 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and all her nieces, nephew and great nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at North Caddo Medical in Vivian and at Willis Knighton on Greenwood Road. We are especially grateful to Mrs. Lucie Grove and the all the other members of the Hospice team.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Walker, Joe Walker, John Brown Jr., James Brown, Brian Statham, Joe Brown Jr., Sam Brown, and T.J. Brown.
