Richard Blake Cunningham was the son of Kathryn Ann Kidwell (1922-1998) and
George Blake Cunningham (1921-1994).
He attended grade school in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, California and High School in Corpus Christi and then Houston, Texas.
Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army on September 9, 1964. He trained with the Army Airborne at Fort Benning, Georgia and was attached to the 173rd Airborne in Vietnam where he participated in a live combat jump. He was discharged as a SP4 on September 10, 1966.
Richard married Evelyn Michele Dowless (1944-__) on March 11, 1974 in Houston, Fort Bend County, Texas.
