PARKER CITY - Michael Stuart Freeman, 61, of Parker City, passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 10, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 30, 1947 in Muncie, IN the son of Stuart Hale and Margaret Lillian (Fallis) Freeman. He was a 1965 graduate of Monroe Central High School.

Michael honorable served in the US Navy. He was a lifelong servant to the community of Parker City, having served 25 years on the Parker City Volunteer Fire Department, many of which he was Fire Chief; 30 years on the Parker City Ambulance; 21 years on the Parker City Police Department of which he currently was serving. Mike had played Santa for the Parker City Fire Department for over 25 years. He will be deeply missed and honored by his fellow comrades of these departments and his community.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 39 years, Joan K. "Joanie" (Fraley) Freeman; a daughter, Melissa Pittman (husband, Timothy) of Hagerstown; brother, Steve Freeman (wife, Cheryl) of Muncie; sister, Jackie Sue (Gillette) McQuade (husband, Michael) of Albuquerque , NM; two grandchildren, Maggie Pittman and Makayla Lacy Mangas, both of Hagerstown; mother-in-law, Parma Ooten (husband, Oakey) of Dunkirk; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Mike's life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
