Born May 1, 1937 in Norwich, New York, he was a son of the late William J. and Greta (Crandall) Ackerman.
On May 28, 2005 he married Diane S. (Sheesley) Truesdale Ackerman who survives.
He graduated from the State University of New York-Oswego with a B.S. in education and industrial art and was also a graduate of the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
He was a retired Commander from the United States Navy serving for 22 years. He was a naval aviator.
He enjoyed boating, woodworking, reading, hunting and fishing, traveling and sports cars. He was also a gourmet chef.
In addition to his wife he is also survived by four children: Bo Ackerman and Nat Ackerman both of Georgia, Michelle Matzinger of South Carolina and Jordan Trusdale of North Carolina and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
Visitation will be held on Nov. 12 from 2-4 p.m. at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
Members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service from the funeral home on Nov. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. from the funeral home with Reverend David Nagele officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hahne Cancer Center and/or DRMC Hospice, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
