From obit of Nancy Johnson Cowley Griggs: She was married to Mathew Cowley in 1844 and to them were born eight children. He enlisted in the Civil War and served as First Lieutenant in the 9th Kansas Cavalry. He died in the army in 1864, at Little Rock, Ark., of typhoid fever.
