In declining health for the past three years, Mr. George James Aikman, 76, of 13 Grove Street was taken to Massena Memorial Hospital two weeks ago. He died there at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning.

Mr. Aikman was born in Montreal, August 20, 1870, a son of John and Annie Laurie Aikman. He was educated in Montreal and then moved to Morrisburg. He served as a diver on construction jobs for a number of years.

He and Miss Margaret Turnbull were married on Christmas Day, 1902 in Brockville, Ontario.

They moved to Massena in 1903 and Mr. Aikman began working for the St. Lawrence River Power Company, which later was taken over by the Aluminum Company. He was admitted to the 25-Year Club in 1928 and at the time he retired in November, 1942, he was general foreman of river and canal maintenance, dredging department.

Active in community life, Mr. Aikman was a past noble grand of St. Lawrence Lodge 882, 100F. He was also an honorary member, having joined the order over 40 years ago. He also belonged to the Modern Woodmen of American when that lodge was active here. He was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Harley N. (Marguerite) Stanton, Utica; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Myers, Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Mrs. Annie L. Rice, Morrisburg, Ontario.
