Alfred Abney Obit:
Funeral services for Alfred N. Abney, 92, 211 S. Pershing, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Meeks Mortuary. The Rev. Garrett Phillips will officiate and burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and prior to services Saturday.
Mr. Abney died Wednesday afternoon in Ball Hospital following a brief illness. He was a native of Madison County. He attended school in Lapel and also worked there as a bottle blower for the Wilcox Glass Company.
He moved to Muncie from Fairmount in 1909. For the next 40 years he was an employee of Warner Gear. In more recent years, Mr. Abney was a salesman and collector for Consolidated Furnishings Company for a brief period before managing Miller's Shoe Store for four years. Until recently, he operated a mail-order shoe business from his residence. He was also a school crossing guard.
Mr. Abney was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church and the Sympathy Club of Warner Gear.
Surviving are his daughter, Annabelle Ryan, North Webster; a granddaughter, Joanna Conley, with whom he made his home; a brother, George Abney, Anderson; five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
