Moonie served as a Motor Machinist Mate third class in the Construction Battalion from August 7, 1945 to March 27, 1946. For his service, he received the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.
He married Agnes Badman and they raised two children: Ralph and Cynthia. He was employed by Frank Martz Coach Company in Wilkes-Barre as a bus driver. Prior to that, he worked for Ward Andress Excavating Contractors in Dorrance Township, and for Andress Homes in Mountain Top. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
