Excerpt from 1887 work "History of Bucks County, Pennsylvania" -

"Samuel H. Bibighaus, retired merchant, residence Philadelphia, was born in 1818, in Philadelphia. He is a descendant of Martin Bibighaus, a native of Whitgenstein, Germany, who died in 1742. His son, Samuel, was born in 1740 and in 1708 married Magdalena Meichel. They were members of the Reformed church.

They came to Philadelphia October 29, 1770, in the ship Sally," and settled in Bedminster township, Bucks county, soon after their arrival. He died In 1811, aged 70 years, and she in 1799, aged 48. They were buried in the graveyard at the Tohickon church.

Six children were born to the couple, of whom the youngest was Henry, father of Samuel H.

Henry was a minister, and In 1808 went to Philadelphia, where he resided until his death in 1861, serving twenty-nine years in the ministry. He married Sarah Sumstone In 180, and sho died in 1841. They had eleven children. Samuel H., the eighth child, received a common school education in Philadelphia. Belonging to a large family he was early thrown upon his own resources, and in 1827 was employed as a clerk, which business he followed until he was 21 years old. He then engaged in business for himself and continued until 1865 when he retired.

In 1846 he was married to Maria B., daughter of George and Catherine Lerch, of Easton, Pa. They have had four children, all of whom are deceased : William, George, Sallie, and Eliza.

Mr. Bibighaus is a member of the First Reformed church of Philadelphia, and for thirty years has been treasurer of the same."
